A vehicle 10 is quipped with a gap sensor 11, such as a radar, lidar or infra-red sensor. In order to determine if the gap sensor is misaligned or otherwise misplaced, the vehicle is equipped with a device 13 which measures the inclination of the vehicle, for instance by measuring the extension of the vehicle's springs. Control unit 12 produces a histogram (fig 2a) of the vehicle's inclination over time and a histogram of the output of the gap sensor over time (fig 2b); this latter histogram will have a missing section (24 or 25) if the sensor is misaligned or misplaced; the missing section is located by correlating the two histograms. |
