PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for producing an olefinic polymer, capable of easily isolating the obtained catalyst in the production of the catalyst, also preventing the adherence of a polymer to a wall of a reaction vessel in producing the polymer by using the catalyst and obtaining the polymer high in bulk density and good in particle shape, and to provide a method for producing the olefinic polymer. SOLUTION: This catalyst for polymerizingα-olefin is obtained by preliminary polymerizing a monomer such as propylene by using a catalytic component consisting of polymer particles such as a polypropylene, a chelate of a transition metal of IVB group of the Periodic table having a substituted cyclopentadienyl group, etc., and an aluminumoxy compound in a liquid state low boiling point hydrocarbon such as pentane. Then, anα-olefinic polymer is obtained by bringing theα-olefin into contact with the catalyst and performing a main polymerization.
