In a waste water purification process, the biomass produced in the second stage, a vegetable clarification plant, is added to the waste water before a first anaerobic treatment stage. The organic contamination of the waste water is thus increased up to a sufficiently high level for anaerobic methane fermentation to take place. The still lightly contaminated waste water from the first stage is used in the vegetable clarification plant (second purification stage) for irrigation and manuring purposes. Under the influence of solar energy, a vegetable biomass is formed which can again be added to the waste water before the first purification stage. This process allows waste water with a low content of organic contamination to be subjected to an anaerobic methane fermentation process for purification and at the same time for biogas production purposes. |
