An electric toaster consists of a body (1) with an opening slot, an inner toasting chamber, and a bread support (2) which is located inside the chamber and is connected to a projecting arm with a knob (3) for setting the support in upper, intermediate and lower positions. The support is connected to the toaster body by a return spring (5) with a series of adjoining spirals. The lower end (5a) of the spring is flared to engage with the support, which has a cylindrical member (6) to interact with a guide rod ensuring an optimal movement of the support. In a variant of the design the guide rod, spring and cylindrical support member can be mounted coaxially.
