The invention concerns a finishing edge for the side of an open staircase, comprising T-square-shaped elements (5) the branches (5a, 5b) of which are to be respectively arranged on the side of the steps (3) parallel to their horizontal and vertical surfaces. The invention is characterised in that the T-square-shaped elements have substantially plane branches and are designed to match the cants of the step covering only the side of the step, one joining element (9) ensuring the continuity between two adjacent T-square-shaped elements.
