PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-speed and high-efficiency optical switch of a light- optical control system with a simple configuration. SOLUTION: Signal light outgoing from a nonlinear optical waveguide 1 is led to a signal light output port 12 after passing through an optical frequency filter 2. The optical frequency filter 2 is a band-pass filter transmitting only a signal light pulse of a central frequencyω1 through. When the central frequencyω0 of control light is set in the absorption area of the nonlinear optical waveguide 1, by that a control light pulse is absorbed, and a carrier is excited, a refractive index change occurs. Thus, only the signal light pulse incident simultaneously with the control light pulse is shifted to the central frequencyω2. The signal light pulse that the central frequency is shifted toω2 is blocked by the optical frequency filter 2, and gate type optical switch operation is realized.
