The intermittent heating method implies the determination, following a period on non-occupation of the building, of the time instant for starting the heating system so that a target internal temperature is attained at the commencement of the period of occupation. The method establishes an adaptive and predictive internal model (2) of the building fabric in response to exterior temperatures Text (t) and the heating power (Ut). The internal temperature of the building is measured. This measured temperature (Tmes) is compared with the internal temperature (Tmod) indicated by the model (2) and the latter is modified so as to reduce the difference (e) between the two compared values. The predictive model (2) has for adaptable parameters the static gain and time constants and modifies these parameters so as to reduce the difference (e) between compared values. The programmer includes a predictive and adaptive model (2) of the building fabric, a comparator (3), and an adaptive algorithm (4) for the model so as to reduce the difference (e) between compared values. The model is provided with an outside temperature extrapolator.
