PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a pharmacentical composition containing a reduction type coenzyme Q10 as an active ingredient, excellent in oral absorbing property and exhibiting high bioavailability, compared with that of an oxidation type coenzyme. SOLUTION: The content of a reduction type coenzyme Q10 represented by formula I is >=20wt.%, preferably >=40wt.%, further preferably >=60wt.% based on total amount of the coenzyme from the viewpoint of bioavailability of a medicinal composition. It is not required to further increase the content, because production process becomes complicate and production cost are increased, if the content of the reduction type coenzyme is too high. A method for obtaining the coenzyme of formula I comprises obtaining a coenzyme Q10 by a well-known method such as synthesis or fermentation and as necessary, reducing an oxidation type coenzyme Q10 of formula II by using a general reducing agent and concentrating the coenzyme of formula I in the effluent by chromatography. The pharmaceutical composition containing the coenzyme of formula I is used as a medicine effective for symptom of ischemic heat diseases, senile myocardiosclerosis, etc., and a nutrient, etc.
