Cephalosporin derivs. of the formula I [R1=H, amino proteting gp.; R2=H, C1-4 alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloaknyl, etc.; N+Q=(a)cyclic quaternary ammonium gp. and their salts, and esters are prepd. Thus, 0.21m mol diphenylmethyl 7-[2-(5-amino-1,2,4-thiazol-3-yl)2-methoxyiminoacetamido -3-(3-iodo-1-propen-1-yl) -3-cephem-4- carboxylate is reacted with 0.42m mol 1-methyl-pyrrolidine to yield 12% 7-[2-(5-amino-1,2,4-thiazol-3-yl)-2-methoxyiminoacetamido -3[3-(1-methylpyrrolidinio-1-propen-1-yl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylate . The compd. I(R1=H) are antibacterials effective against gram positive and negative species, and useful for treating infections in humans and animals.
