The strut comprises a cylinder (3) with an axially movable piston rod (7) which is protected by a protective bellows (13). The bellows is secured to the strut by a retainer (21) of a spring plate (17). The spring plate has a hollow component (19) extending in the direction of the exit side of the piston rod and is provided with at least one retainer. The hollow component may reach as far as the end face of the cylinder and has a base which forms the support face for the spring plate. The bellows retainer may consist of an outwards profiling on the spring plate hollow component which engages in a mating profiling of the bellows.
