Distractor for patient's skin

The distractor has two jaws (14,16) on which blades are mounted for insertion into the patient's skin. The blades area adjustable relative to each other by means of an adjuster mechanism which causes a tension force to be exerted on the skin. At least one jaw (16) is driven by a fluid pressure drive (30) which engages with the jaw. The fluid pressure drive is a pneumatic drive system and it moves the jaws in a guide (17) formed by a rail (10). The fluid drive is mounted on a base element (18) which is seated on the rail.
