PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rotary magnetic head drum device capable of enlarging the loosening quantity of a magnetic tape at the time of a tension release mode and moreover standing by within the guiding surface of a lead part. SOLUTION: This device is composed of a fixed lower drum 20 and a rotating upper drum coaxially arranged with a slight gap between the fixed lower drum 20. The lead part 50 is formed on the outer peripheral surface of the fixed lower drum 20, and the width Wb of the guiding surface 50a of the lead part 50 is formed to be sufficiently wide e.g. about the width of 0.6mm so that the magnetic tape is subjected to remain only within the guiding surface of the lead part even in the case of the magnetic tape being the loosest state at the time of the tension release mode.
