The electromagnetic starter relay for use in a road vehicle has a moving core 12 that couples with the starter gear. A central core 20 is fixed and has a guide bore for that starter pin 31. The starter relay assembly 60 has a moving contact 84 that is displaced to engage fixed contacts 82 when the relay coil 62 is energised. Main contacts 50,52 are engaged 54 to apply power to the main coil 16 to operate the starter.
