The appts. includes an X-ray beam source (1) which emits an X-ray beam. It also has a beam detector (2) which receives the beam. The source (1) and the detector (2) are arranged opposite each other and can be aligned with each other relative to the central beam of the emitted radiation. The beam source (1) is arranged so that it cannot move horizontally relative to the axis of the central beam (4). The beam detector (2) is arranged to be rotatable about at least one axis perpendicular to the central beam (4).
