PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for converting the drawing file into an intermediate format which can obtain correct measuring information by the phasic and geometric analysis of a dimensional graphic. SOLUTION: A CPU registers vertex coordinates (X, Y) in a dimensional graphic as meta points and segments connecting two meta points and having an angleθas meta lines in a data base (S11). Then, the CPU substitutes a point for an overlapped point and a side for a multiplex side and integrates meta lines to be superposed when they are extended to infinite length into one meta line (S12). Then, the CPU separates and removes terminal symbols and closed graphics in order to leave only meta lines constituting the frame of the dimensional graphic (S13). In this case, the terminal symbols are reregistered in a meta graphic data base as meta terminals. Then the CPU executes shape analysis processing in accordance with the number of terminal symbols in order to judge dimension lines and extension lines (S14). Since an optional point P1 on the dimension line or the extension line and the angleθof the dimension lines can be obtained as the result of shape analysis processing, the CPU judges which are start points P2, P3 out of both the end points of two meta lines judged as extension lines by shape analysis (S15).
