The mechanical switching device has a primary cam (36B), a cam follower (58A) which follows the primary path of the first cam when it is in rotation in a second direction of rotation (117). The primary cam and the follower operate together when the cam is in rotation in its first or primary direction (116). The cam follower follows at least part of the main path, and alternately is displaced along its axis of rotation. The shoulder of the cam follower then leaves the main path and attains a predetermined position.
