The method involves bolting a hinge (5) to the vehicle's body (9) with a bolt (11) which permits axial displacement. This takes place after lining up the door (3). The door and hinge are then removed, with the bolt keeping their position. The bolt is preferably initially held in a recess (10) in the hinge. The bolt may have a non-round head (12) which prevents it turning in the recess.
