<p>An inflatable support (2) for use in mines and other underground workings comprises: (i) a tube (4) to be installed in an upright position where it is desired to provide support, the tube (4) having (ii) an inlet (8) for the admission of a pumpable load bearing material, an outlet (10) for releasing air from the tube (4) and (iii) a diaphragm (18) securely attached to the upper end of said tube (4) and capable of being inflated by the introduction of the pumpable load bearing material and of sufficient flexibility to follow surface irregularities in the roof of the mine. Preferably a diaphragm (12) is also attached to the lower end of the tube (4) and the latter is preferably in the form of two tubular sections (4, 6), there being an upper section (6) in a sliding telescopic fit in a lower section (4) and there being a seal (5) between the two tubular sections.</p> |
