PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to detect the angle of rotation with a high resolution by using a magneto-impedance effect element of high magnetic sensitivity as a angle-of-rotation detecting means. SOLUTION: A bit pattern is recorded beforehand in the peripheral part 2 of a magnetically recordable disk 1, and a leakage flux is detected by a magneto-impedance effect element 3 composed by using a soft magnetic thin film having a composition of CoZrNb, FeSi. FeAlSi, or FeNi. By rotating the shaft 4, an output corresponding to the bit pattern is obtained by the element 3. The limit of the linear recording density of the bit pattern is in the extent of 0.12μm, and is about eighty times as high as the detection by a Hall element, etc., heretofore in use. Besides, a multidivision system incapable of using for detection by an element heretofore in use in respect of noise is applicable, since it is possible to obtain neat sinusoidal wave output in case of a recording pitch in the same extent as before. And it is possible to obtain data with good reproducibility up to division into one hundred for example, and therefore to realize a resolution about two digits higher.
