Method of operating piston machine for expansion or gaseous medium at high pressure and temperature in gas plants

The method operates a piston machine which has at least one inlet valve (20). This is operated with different inlet control times for the operating medium. An outlet arrangement is effective in the region of the lower dead point of the cylinder to be effective for the expanded operating medium. The outlet arrangement has an outlet valve (30) whose opening characteristic is controllable. By means of the operation of this outlet valve (30) the cylinder chamber (1) can be emptied on movement of the piston (5) to the upper dead point. The operating medium is preferably a control medium for actuation of both the inlet and outlet valves (20,30). The chamber is then emptied into a temporary store os greater volume to reduce the pressure of the medium. The temporary store may have an overcurrent valve in the compression region.
