The system comprises: (a) a base (1) comprising an insulating sheet (3) of plastics foam (pref. polystyrene); (b) a deep-drawn plastics (pref. polystyrene) sheet (2) provided with upstanding projections (6,7) for holding the pipes; (c) plastics foam (pref. polyethylene) edge strips (11,12); and (d) a plastics (pref. polyethylene) top sheet (12,13) where: (i) insulation sheet (3) and deep-drawn sheet (2) can be releasably connected using projections (6,7); (ii) one row (6) of projections on sheet (2) extends out over the edge of sheet (3) while the projections (7) at both other edges have smaller cross-section fitting into projections (6); and (iii) projections (6) of sheet (2) which do not have a smaller cross-section are elastic and can be pressed into each other.
