PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To retrieve Chinese character (KANJI) mixed Japanese syllabary (KANA) character string without increasing dictionary capacity and lowering conversion efficiency. SOLUTION: A word dictionary is formed from a state table 11 allocating an identification number for every combination of a KANJI and reading corresponding to that KANJI and an index table 12 describing the index and reading of a registered word corresponding to the identification number in this state table. When the KANJI mixed character string to be a converting object is inputted, while referring to the state table 11, the relevant input character string is replaced with an identification number sequence and based on this identification number sequence, the relevant input character string is retrieved from the index table 12. |
