The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a spiro[2.4]-hepta-4,6-diene (SHD). The invention is charaterised in that use is made of an at least mono-ring-substituted beta -haloethylcyclopentadiene, which is converted into the corresponding SHD under the influence of a base. The invention also relates to SHD obtainable by means of said process.
