WATER-REPELLENT POLYESTER FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester fiber excellent in water repellency without post-treatment of a fiber structure such as fabric for water repellency. SOLUTION: In this water-repellent polyester, a fluorocarbon copolymer substantially composed of 20-70wt.% of tetrafluoroethylene units, 5-30wt.% of hexafluoropropylene units and vinylidene fluoride units and melting at 80-200 deg.C is dispersed in the form of independently separated islands in the cross- section of the polyester fiber near its surface in which the maximum size of the island components ranges from 0.1-1μm.
