The apparatus incorporates a fixed scanning bar, similar to that of a facsimile scanner, extending over the width of the paper within 5 cm of the printhead or ribbon. The scanner and printer are operated by the same mechanism with a common electric power supply and paper drive. The paper feed and collection trays are conventional and the electronic control circuits are very similar to those currently used for the two processes. The software enables these to alternate and manages any offset between the printed line and the read line.
