摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly cut an optical fiber to an exact length. SOLUTION: This device is constituted to set the optical fiber 26 to be cut which is formed by fusion splicing the first and second optical fibers exposed with the bare fibers by removing the coatings on the front end side of the optical fibers and to cut this optical fiber by allowing the front end side of the bare fiber 32 of the second optical fiber to remain by the predetermined length from the fusion spliced part to the first optical fiber. In such a case, the bare fiber 32 of the second optical fiber is cut by a cutter blade 25 from a horizontal X direction approximately orthogonal with the optical axis Z direction of the optical fiber 26 to be cut. At the time of this cutting, a fiber cutter 5 is provided with a light 21 for irradiating the fusion spliced part with transmitted light from the lower side of this part. The exact position of the fusion spliced part is detected by a stereomicroscope 18 by utilizing the transmitted light and the bare fiber 32 of the second optical fiber is cut with this position as a reference.
