A process for producing a compound having the formula <IMAGE> IV wherein X is halogen and R1 is lower alkyl, benzyl, or phenyl, which comprises reducing a compound having the formula <IMAGE> III wherein X and R1 are as above, with an aluminum trialkoxide or lithium aluminum trialkoxyhydride reducing agent.
