<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool equipped with a tool wear detecting function, which is capable of surely detecting the wear of a tool. SOLUTION: The current power consumption PW1 of a built-in motor 9 for driving a main spindle 11 is monitored by a load meter 31, an A/D converter 32, a comparator 33 and an arithmetic part 34 and compared with a preset reference power consumption and then the wear of a tool 12 is detected when the power consumption PW1 is larger than the reference power consumption following the progress of machining. The main spindle 11 is supported by air static pressure bearings 14 to 18, and noises produced following rotation appearing at a power consumption detecting value are reduced far more than those in conventional roller bearings. Thus, tiny fluctuation in power consumption is detected and thereby the wear of the tool 12 is surely detected.</p> |
