PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a circuit for starting up a motor, which cuts off current for starting up a motor using a TRIAC and a positive characteristic thermistor which controls the TRIAC, to surely cut off the current for starting up a motor at an appropriate time after a motor is started up regardless of a change in ambient temperature. SOLUTION: A positive characteristic thermistor 8 for controlling a TRIAC is connected to a gate terminal G of a TRIAC 7 which is turned on so that current for starting up a motor 1 may be allowed to flow in an auxiliary coil 2. The gate current is supplied to the TRIAC 7 through the positive characteristic thermistor 8 for controlling a TRIAC. As for the positive characteristic thermistor 8 for controlling a TRIAC, one which has a resistance value of 300-3000Ωand a volume of 30-60mm<3> at 25 deg. and has double the rated resistance value at 70-125 deg. is used.
