A stationary storage drum(18) is located between a picking nozzle(2) and a weft supply(25), a pic length of weft being coiled upon the drum(18) by a rotating guide(23), and the weft coils being held on the drum by catcher hooks (31a, 32a) movable into and out of auxiliary-spaced holdes(33, 34) in the drum by external levers, which carry the hooks being retracted for picking. The stationary drum(18) has no inaccessible internal mechanisms and can be relatively small. The drum(18) has a tapered portion(18b) near the weft supply(25) and a cylindrical section(18b) near the nozzle(2), each with one of the holes(33, 34).
