PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain ceramic powder small in particle size and narrow in particle size distribution, and to obtain a uniform ceramic molded product and ceramic film at low cost by using the above ceramic powder. SOLUTION: This ceramic-forming agent consists of at least one kind of water-soluble polymer selected from the group consisting of (A) water-soluble polymer containing amino group-bearing structural units, (B) water-soluble polymer containing ether linkage-bearing structural units and (C) water-soluble polymer containing structural units derived from a vinyl-based monomer (salt) bearing one or two monovalent acid group(s). The other objective ceramic is obtained by dissolving the above ceramic-forming agent in a metal compound- contg. liquid and then by heating and baking the resultant solution or a dried product therefrom to effect decomposing the ceramic-forming agent and producing the aimed ceramic.
