PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject nonwoven product consisting of hydrophobic fibers, a hydrophilic agent and a resinous binder for adhesion in a specific mixing ratio, having a specific nonwoven density, capable of remarkably improving water-absorbing ability and excellent in strength. SOLUTION: This nonwoven mat consists of (A) 52.5 to 97.7 pts.wt. of hydrophobic fibers (e.g. polypropylene fibers) with a denier of 0.5 to 10 and a density of 0.9 to 1.4g/cm<3> , (B) 7.5 to 0.3 pts.wt. of a hydrophilic agent (e.g. an emulsified polyester resin) and (C) 40 to 2 pts.wt. of a resinous binder for adhesion, and has a nonwoven density of 0.15 to 0.5g/cm<3> . The nonwoven mat is obtained by blending the component A with a thermoplastic resin fiber to be transformed through melting into the component C having a lower melting temperature than that of the component A to form a web and by coating the resultant web with the component B, followed by heating it at a temperature equal to or higher than the melting temperature of the component A and equal to or lower than the melting temperature of the thermoplastic resin fiber, and then by subjecting it to dry, cure and press for adjusting its thickness in this order. |
