Head rest adjuster clamp, esp for motor vehicle seat

The head rest has a support with at least one pillar fitting into a sleeve (1) fixed to a seat back frame member (2). It is adjusted by a clamp in the form of a ring (3) which fits into a recess (12) in the sleeve. The ring and recess have cam surfaces (15,17,18,19) to release or lock the pillar when it is moved in one direction or another, e.g. up or down. The ring is split along one side and has projecting lugs, and both the ring and the sleeve recess have truncated conical surfaces to apply a pressure on the ring when it is pushed downwards. In addition the sleeve recess is elongated in a fore and aft direction so that the ring can be locked or released when the pillar is moved forwards or backwards.
