A process for metallising metal surfaces which are difficult or impossible to plate by chemical methods, with the aid of electrolytic or external current-less chemical methods. The process involves forming an interlayer on a base metal surface by treatment with a higher-valent oxidising agent and then reacting this layer with organic monomers.
