The installation for the packaging of fruit and vegetables in string bags comprises a horizontal transporter (4) operating with an intermittent step movement. The transporter end part is directed axially inside a support tube (13) for a string sleeve (15). The horizontal transporter comprises a supple band (5) on which are ribs separated by the same distance as the forward step of the transporter. Between the ribs are openings for receiving the products and of complementary shape to those of the product. Weighing equipment (17) upstream of the string sleeve support tube weighs each individual product during the stopping of the transporter advance.
