PURPOSE:To obtain readily obtain a compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for medicine, agricultural chemical, industrial chemical, etc., at a short time in high purity and yield, by reacting pentafluorobenzonitrile with a solid metal or solid alloy, preferably metal zinc. CONSTITUTION:Pentafluorobenzonitrile is reacted with a solid metal (e.g. Zn or Sn) or solid alloy (e.g. zinc amalgam) in the presence of an acid such as sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid, preferably in reaction system adjusted to pH 3-6 under atmospheric pressure at 50 deg.C- reflex temperature of an aqueous solvent to provide the aimed product. The solid metal is used at an amount of 0.8-10mol., preferably 1-5mol. based on 1mol. pentafluorobenzonitrile. The aqueous solvent includes water or mixed solvent of water and water-soluble organic solvent and in the mixed solvent, e.g. >=50pts.wt. methyl alcohol is used together with 100pts.wt. water. |
