689,072. Reservoir pens. SCRIPTO, Inc. Feb. 13, 1951. [Feb. 14, 1950] No. 3462/51. Class 146 (iii). A fountain pen is provided with a body of absorbent material retained in the reservoir so as to retain a reserve supply of ink for use after depletion of free ink in the reservoir, means being provided to compress the absorbent material to render the reserve supply of ink available. A collapsable sac 36 is collapsed by a presser plate 38 actuated by a lever.39 pivoted on a ring 40 located in a groove 42. A body 46 of sponge rubber is secured within the sac 36 by adhesive at an intermediate or end position of the sac, such that by actuation of the lever 39, ink will be pressed from the body. Instead of sponge rubber, a wad of glass wool may be retained in the closed end of the sac. Capillary slots 22, provided within a liner 20 for a cap 18, serve to accommodate ink escaping from the reservoir due to increases in temperature or pressure of air within the sac; the interior of the cap being vented by holes 29 and 28 in the liner and cap respectively. The cap 18 is retained on the pen barrel by a ring 15 located within a groove in the barrel. The ring 15 comprises two turns of wire formed with a deflection, such that the turns are substantially parallel. |
