摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain rapid responsiveness even when the nearly same constitution as a usual liquid crystal display device is adopted by giving a nematic liquid crystal molecule placing at nearly equal distances from both substrates molecule orientation nearly perpendicular to the substrate surface and making an angle between the orientation directions of the nematic liquid crystal molecules for respective substrate surfaces a nearly right angle. SOLUTION: Although an initial orientation state of a central liquid crystal molecule 110 placing at nearly equal distances from both glass substrates becomes a spray orientation state parallel to the glass substrate, when a high voltage of a certain threshold value or above is applied between an upper transparent electrode 105 and a lower transparent electrode 106, the central liquid crystal molecule 110 becomes a bent orientation state perpendicular to the glass substrate surface. Since the bent orientation state is returned gradually to the spray orientation state when the voltage is lowered, the hold voltage is required to be applied for holding the bent orientation state.
