PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an acrylic SMC having excellent handleability and good formability by setting a resin sheet between parallel plates, pouring an unsaturated monomer mixture into the space between the plates and swelling the resin sheet with the monomer mixture. SOLUTION: A space is formed between two opposed parallel plates, a resin sheet is set in this space, an unsaturated monomer mixture containing a polymerization initiator is poured into the space so as to fill the space therewith, and the resin sheet is swollen with the monomer mixture to obtain an acrylic SMC. After the sheet has been swollen with the monomer mixture, the two plates are removed. The sheet used is one mainly made from a polymer mainly consisting of methyl methacrylate units. It is desirable in this case that the unsaturated monomer mixture contains methyl methacrylate. |
