Degree of compaction of bed estimating method

The motion of a compacting drum is sensed and a quantity, representing the course of acceleration for the centre or axis of the drum in a direction perpendicular to the drum axis and parallel to the bed, is generated. With the aid of this quantity, at least one point of time or one time interval when the drum mantle is in contact with the bed but, in spite of applied alternating torque, does not appreciably slip against the bed, is determined. Also determined is the frequency of reversal of the applied torque, or the corresp. period, or a parameter which is directly dependent upon any of those, and a second representative quantity is generated. The attained degree of compaction is estimated with the aid of the second quantity and the course of the acceleration at at least one prescribed point of time or during at least part of at least one prescribed time interval.
