A carrier (10) for bottles. The handle area (22, 24) of the top panel (14) is re inforced by a strap (26) connected at its ends to a dust flap (54, 62) in each end panel. The strap (26) is adhered to the top panel (14) and portion of the upper end panel flaps (18), while the portions extending to the dust flaps (54, 62) comprise gusset webs (79, 81). Dur ing formation of a carrier from an erected flattened tube, the dust flaps (54, 62) connected to the reinforcing strap (26) are automaticall y closed upon raising the upper end panel flaps (18). This pulls the upper dust flap portions (64) in against the bottle necks, providing a tight fit between the bottles and the upper portions of the carrier (10).
