PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conveniently measure paraquat detoxication activity in a high accuracy with an excellent reproducibility by measuring an absorbance at a specific wavelength after proliferated a test bacterium by cultivating in an each well of a microplate in the presence of a specimen and paraquat in a high accuracy with an excellent reproducibility. SOLUTION: This method for measuring detoxication activity comprises using Escherichia coli as a test bacterium and a medium containing only glucose as a carbon source in an each well of a microplate in the presence of a specimen and 0.035-5μM of paraquat, cultivating and proliferating a test bacterium within the range that a concentration of the test bacteria is 0.003-0.03 in an absorbance at 650nm and then measuring an absorbance at 600-700nm. The detoxication activity of the test sample against paraquat is measured by the proliferation curve of the test bacteria. Thus, the detoxication activity due to decomposition of superoxide produced by paraquat, a contact herbicide of a nonhormone type, is conveniently measured in a high accuracy with an excellent reproducibility. |
