The invention concerns a guide for a carriage for machine tools. The flat, prism, linear and tailstock sleeve guides of the prior art exhibit a number of disadvantages: they are expensive to manufacture and maintain, are massive and a high tilting moment is applied on the guide. The invention overcomes these disadvantages via a novel guide which consists of a first and a second guiding side which are arranged at a right angle to each other, as well as a third guiding side which is arranged at an angle between 0 and 45 DEG to the first or the second guiding side between the first two guiding sides. This guide is easy and economical to produce, of constant quality and allows precise high-speed machining with appropriately equipped machine tools.
