A device comprising a downwardly-open bell (1) for covering the head of a user, and means for feeding air into the inner space of the bell (1). The bell advantageously includes a substantially cylindrical portion with a sealed upper end (3) and an open lower end (2). The lower portion of said cylindrical portion widens out into side shoulder flaps (6, 7). The open end has a cross-section large enough to let the user's hand or forearm through when the bell is in place over the user's head.
