FLOOR CONSTRUCTION

A floor component is disclosed which comprises a rigid floor board (10) with a layer of foam material (12) underneath. The foam material (12) has a mixture of open cell and closed cell foam particles therein and may extend completely across the underside of the floor board (10). The floor component can be used to refurbish an existing floor to give improved acoustic insulation. The mixture of closed and open cell particles allows loading of the component with less compression of the open cell particles than with known components. The component can conveniently be cut to any required size or shape without significantly altering its stability or insulating properties. A floor construction which includes a number of floor components of the invention is also disclosed.
