The reinforcing bar (5) is made from a material which is resistant to compression, e.g. a pressed sheet metal profile. The bar is fitted inside the door between its inner panel and the window glass when the latter is down. The forward end of the bar is fitted in the zone (6) of the door's upper hinge (7). The rear end of the bar thrusts against the lower part of the door adjacent to the bottom of the central door pillar. In a four-door vehicle the rear door bars can be positions so that their forward ends are located at the bottom of each door and their rear ends in the zone of the door locks. Alternatively, the front and rear door bars can be in line horizontally on a level with the upper hinges, in line but at an angle sloping down from front to rear, or the front door bar horizontal and the rear one sloping down.
|
