Described is a method of controlling a non-linear-acting controlled system, the method calling for a variable indicative of the status of the system (5) to be determined and, using a control procedure and a reference value, a control value to be determined. In addition, making use of a parameter indicating the status of the system (5), a correction factor is read off a linearization characteristic (4) and multiplied by the control value, the product being used as a new reference value for control of the system (5). The linearization characteristic (4) is chosen in such a way that multiplication of the linearization characteristic by the non-linear control behaviour of the controlled system (5) gives linear control behaviour.
