A method for producing glycogen or a glycogen-enriched extract from yeast cells, and a cosmetic composition containing same, are disclosed. The method essentially comprises taking a predetermined amount of yeast cells provided by a specific culture or recovered as residues from a fermentation process, subjecting the yeast cells to an intracellular glycogen enrichment process in the presence of a carbon source, blocking the metabolism of said yeast cells, at least partially disintegrating the yeast cell membranes, and subjecting the released intracellular substances to one or more steps of general or selective precipitation, optionally after a fractionation, concentration, demineralisation and/or bleaching step.
