Pattern machining bit for free machining of wood or similar soft material, the said pattern machining bit comprising a shank 1, by means of which the bit is fixed to a drilling machine 16, which sets it in rotation. Connected to the shank 1 of the machining bit is an actual bit part 2, which is a dished or barrel-shaped annular bit 5, which opens out in the direction of the axis of rotation 6 of the bit, and the plane of which defined by the sharp cutting edge 4 lies perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the bit. The pattern machining bit has one or more chip openings 7 by way of which the chips formed during the machining are removed from the cavity 12 inside the bit part. <IMAGE>
