CARBON FIBER, ITS PRECURSOR AND THEIR PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a carbon fiber having a high tensile strength useful for reinforcing fibers for a composite material by reducing a macro defect ratio in a breaking factor analysis at a prescribed value or lower. SOLUTION: This method for producing a carbon fiber is to make <=60% macro defect ratio, preferably <=30%, which is a criterion of the ratio of a break caused by the macro defects having >=0.1μm defect size in a breaking factor analysis by cross-linking a silicone during the burning in the process of producing the carbon fiber by burning the fiber imparted with the silicone.
